Yeah, I just taught myself. To be honest, I'm actually quite clueless about a lot of things in photoshop, but I've managed to figure things out on my own.

hmmm wow alright then, the only things I know how to do in photoshop is change opacity of things, cut things out, use the clone stamp, the blur tool, color adjust. but I guess if you are good enough with those then you should be able to do photo manips, I just need to do more i guess :P
Hopefully my class on photoshopping in school helps too

Well, that's pretty much all I know how to do. I also use the burn and dodge tools a lot. Which photoshop program do you have? Basically what I deal with most often in making a manip is selecting a certain thing. I work with the selection tool very specifically and carefully around the edges, then I refine it to look softer.
A class would probably be a lot of help.
